08/25/2002 "So Much For No Child Left Behind"

Every single thing the Bush camp does under the guise of helping the people is just another front to institutionalize the religious beliefs of the fundamentalist and the power of his class, the wealthy who seek to control all our public resources...but we can use this to surprise Mr. Hypocrite.

From the No Child left behind Act (being used in Ohio to discredit Darwinism)

....when subjects deemed controversial are taught such as BIOLOGICAL EVOLUTION the children shall be exposed to all sides of the controversy

It's about time that someone stood up to all the darwin lover's and made it legal in the USA to teach the truth a.k.a. "the controversy" in our classes. NCLB means that finally all of the students who believe in an intelligent designer do not have to have the THEORY of evolution taught to them as if it were based on scientific law. I welcome the controversy into my class. A truely effective teacher would never teach only one side of any controversy.

Evolution is not a scientific law. As a science teacher I have always taught that evolution is a theory. By that, I was taught, and pass on to my students, that it may be subject to change based on some later evidence or discoveries. That is what science does -- hypotheses are developed, tested and changed as new information is discovered. If any of you out there are willing to admit that the Bible may be wrong, then please teach it that way, that is, tell your students at Sunday school that the Bible is just a book, that it may be incorrect and until we have definitive proof, we won't know for sure. However, from what I can understand, to you , the Bible is the word of God, The Word, and The Truth. If that is what you believe, that's fine. But it's not science. I don't ask equal time to teach science in your church, please don't ask for equal time to teach your faith in my SCIENCE class. Religion is faith and you have confused it with science. I tell my students that if they believe in the Bible, that is fine. But by saying the Bible is The Truth, as Christy claims, you have taken it out of the realm of science. Teach the Bible in Sunday School.

And I am not sure where the first person, Christy teaches, it must be home school, because all of the teachers I know spell the word as "T-R-U-L-Y"
